What makes a road feel like home? Sometimes it is the ordinary moments: a shop door opening, a familiar face on the pavement, a bag of shopping or a conversation over a cup of tea. A Day on Hessle Road celebrates those everyday connections through six illustrated scenes, from morning to evening.
Morning begins

The first scene imagines a shopkeeper preparing for the day. A swept doorstep and an opening door set the scene for the people who will soon pass by. Which shops do you remember opening early? What sounds or smells told you the day had begun?
On the way

People set off for school, work and errands. The illustration brings together walkers and cyclists, each with somewhere to be. Tell us about your regular journey along Hessle Road: the route, the people you met and the corners you knew by heart.
A busy road

Shopping can hold a whole collection of memories: choosing something for tea, meeting a neighbour or being sent out for one forgotten item. This lively scene celebrates that bustle. Which shop, stall or shopkeeper would you put into your own picture of the road?
Time for a chat

A pause over a cup of tea can turn an ordinary day into a remembered one. Our imagined cafe scene celebrates company and conversation. Was there a place you regularly stopped, or a person who always had time for a chat?
Homeward bound

As the light softens, the scene moves to a nearby terraced street. Shopping is carried home and a family welcomes someone at the door. What did coming home mean to you: tea on the table, children playing or a neighbour calling hello?
Evening together

The final scene imagines friends sharing an evening in a welcoming pub, with music in the background. It celebrates the pleasure of getting together. Which places, songs and friendships belong in your memories of a Hessle Road evening?
