The story so far

Ross Cleveland was lost in severe weather off Iceland on 4 February 1968. Eighteen men died; Harry Eddom survived. This vessel’s story belongs within Hull’s wider remembrance of the 1968 losses. Family contributions can record everyday lives and connections as well as the events already described in historical sources.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE VESSEL

1968 loss list and surviving mate

18 men recorded as lost, with Harry Eddom, the surviving mate, listed separately. This covers those aboard at the sinking, not a complete departure list or lifetime crew register.

Spellings follow the contemporary memorial-service catalogue; some later memorial transcriptions differ. Corrections supported by family documents are welcome. STAND describes the sinking on 4 February; some memorial records use 5 February.

Vessel sources & research

Researched October 2026. This is a growing vessel record. Crew-list coverage and dates are explained above; a name’s absence is not evidence that someone never served. Corrections and documents are welcome at info@hessleroad.com.
